One of the noteworthy monument in the principal square, Piazza della Libertà, is the fountain by Giovanni Carrara, built in 1542. On the left side of the square the 16th century Loggia di San Giovanni.
The Duomo of Udine is an imposing edifice built from 1236, on a Latin cross-shaped plan. The church was consacrated in 1335 as Santa Maria Maggiore.
Piazza della Libertà is the principal square in Udine, in which stands the Renaissance Loggia di San Giovanni (1535)with the clock tower resembling that of Piazza San Marco in Venice.
